BRIS & BABY NAMINGS
The brit milah (bris/“covenant of circumcision”), brit bat (baby naming/“covenant of the daughter”), and brit ben or brit shalom (baby naming/"covenant of the son") ceremonies are opportunities to welcome the newest member of your family into the Jewish community and solidify their identity with a name.
Through rituals, songs, and blessings that we pass down through the generations, we'll bless children with a meaningful Hebrew name and mark the beginning of their Jewish journey. I'll guide you in choosing a Hebrew name that honors a loved one's legacy or whose meaning adds blessing to your child's life.
Traditionally a bris is held when the baby is eight days old. Baby naming ceremonies can be held at any time.
Many people have their sons circumcised in a hospital and just hold baby naming ceremonies. If you are planning a bris I will refer you to trusted mohel or mohelet.
Cantor Stein’s naming ceremony for our daughter was beautiful! She also named our son a few years ago and we knew we had to have her back as our family grew. We feel so lucky to share these moments with her. She’s incredibly gifted. We’ll see her again in 12 years at our daughter's Bat Mitzvah! - Gillian W.
